About GTT

Grof Transpersonal Training

GTT is the only organization that can certify HOLOTROPIC BREATHWORK® facilitators worldwide.  We were the first and are the most established internationally-recognized program for training in expanded states of awareness.

Founded by Stanislav and Christina Grof in 1989, and owned and run since 1998 by Tav and Cary Sparks, Grof Transpersonal Training (GTT) is an international organization that offers workshops and training in Holotropic Breathwork® and the holotropic perspective.

For the 30-plus years they’ve stewarded this work, GTT’s leaders and teachers have held true to the Principles of Holotropic Breathwork® as originally presented to the world by Christina Grof and Stanislav Grof. They continue to make this a priority to this day, and the events offered by GTT are held with these Principles and the accompanying Ethical Agreements in the forefront.

Grof Transpersonal Training is a two-track program that can be used either to become a certified practitioner or simply to experience this practice in a supportive, in-depth set and setting.

Each GTT event includes preparation, sessions of Holotropic Breathwork® (HB), and integration. Preparation includes an introduction to this work and an overview of the theoretical framework. Holotropic Breathwork® sessions are followed by practices that support integration, such as art, music, movement and nature.

Longer events may include a learning component on a specific theme; additional experiential practices; and much more. Wherever GTT events take place throughout the world, you will meet an international group of like-minded people, and be supported by a carefully selected teaching and facilitating staff. Events are led by a team of trusted, experienced and talented teachers, many of whom trained for years with Tav Sparks and Christina and Stanislav Grof, and who exemplify the holotropic perspective and hold the work with deep integrity.

GTT also offers modules featuring guest leaders such as Monika Wikman, Jai Uttal, Cait Branigan, Geoff Fitzpatrick, and others. Past guest teachers have included Jack Kornfield, Andrew Harvey, Angeles Arrien, Richard Tarnas, Dokusho Villalba, and Keiron LeGrice.

Beyond the breathwork experience, these events offer a framework of language, method and structure for working in and understanding expanded states of consciousness. No previous experience of Holotropic Breathwork® is needed to participate in any GTT event (except closing certification intensives and advanced trainings).

These events …

  • Are for those who want to experience non-ordinary states and the “adventure of self-discovery”
  • Offer a space where you can learn to navigate the internal landscape of challenging life experiences
  • Provide training in “presence” – our capacity to be a supportive presence for friends, family, colleagues and others – for everything from parenting to hospice to “harm reduction.”

*caveat – this is not a training for psychotherapy or counseling
