About GTT

Grof Transpersonal Training

Founded by Stanislav and Christina Grof in 1989, Grof Transpersonal Training (GTT) is an international organization that offers workshops and training in Holotropic Breathwork and the holotropic perspective. In 1998, the rights to Grof Transpersonal Training and the term “Holotropic Breathwork” were purchased by Tav and Cary Sparks, following their many years of working closely with the Grofs.

GTT is a two-track program that can be used either to become a certified practitioner or simply to experience this practice in a supportive, in-depth set and setting. GTT is the only program in the world that certifies practitioners in Holotropic Breathwork™.

Each GTT event includes preparation, sessions of Holotropic Breathwork (HB), and integration. Preparation includes an introduction to this work and an overview of the theoretical framework. Holotropic Breathwork sessions are followed by practices that support integration, such as art, music, movement and nature.

Longer events may include a learning component on a specific theme; additional experiential practices; and much more. Wherever GTT events take place throughout the world, you will meet an international group of like-minded people, and be supported by a carefully selected teaching and facilitating staff. Events are led by GTT director Tav Sparks and a team of trusted, experienced and talented teachers who for many years have worked in the training, and who exemplify the holotropic perspective and hold the work with deep integrity.

GTT also offers modules featuring guest leaders such as Monika Wikman, Jai Uttal, Cait Branigan, Geoff Fitzpatrick, Dokusho Villalba, and Keiron LeGrice. Past guest teachers have included Jack Kornfield, Andrew Harvey, Angeles Arrien, Richard Tarnas and others.

Beyond the breathwork experience, these events offer a framework of language, method and structure for working in and understanding expanded states of consciousness. No previous experience of Holotropic Breathwork is needed to participate in any GTT event (except closing certification intensives and advanced trainings).

These events …

  • Are for those who want to experience non-ordinary states and the “adventure of self-discovery”
  • Offer a space where you can learn to navigate the internal landscape of challenging life experiences
  • Provide training in “presence” – our capacity to be a supportive presence for friends, family, colleagues and others – for everything from parenting to hospice to “harm reduction.”

*caveat – this is not a training for psychotherapy or counseling
